Mark A. Meyer, Esq. Appointed Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova for the State of New York


The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the United States of America is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark A. Meyer, Esq., a distinguished American lawyer, as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova for the State of New York.


The mission of the Consulate is to promote cultural, economic, and educational links between the Republic of Moldova and the State of New York. In his capacity as Honorary Consul, Mr. Meyer will be able to increase Moldova’s visibility and presence in the important world financial capital of New York City.

Mr. Meyer is a leading international lawyer with the firm of Herzfeld & Rubin, P.C. He is a member Panel of Arbitrators of the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), and an Adjunct Professor of Law at St. John’s University School of Law in New York City. In 2006, the President of the Republic of Moldova bestowed upon Mr. Meyer the Republic of Moldova’s Medal of Civic Merit. In 2007, St. John’s University School of Law conferred upon Mr. Meyer the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, describing him as “a pioneer in promoting the rule of law in Central and Eastern Europe since 1990.” In 2011, Fairleigh Dickinson University conferred the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, upon Mr. Meyer lauding him for: “embracing the promise of other cultures, working tirelessly to promote the rule of law in a developing region and building international relationships based on mutual cooperation.” In 2004, Mr. Meyer was named a Harvard Law School Traphagen Distinguished Alumnus for his “great skill in the economic, legal and political transformation of a developing region”. Mr. Meyer has been Chairman of the Moldovan-American Chamber of Commerce since 1992. He is a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, St. John's University, and Harvard Law School.
